About the scholarship
The purpose of the DIY Girls Club Facilitator Scholarship is to support the STEAM education movement by encouraging promising teachers to integrate STEAM curriculum into their classrooms. The award includes professional development training, ongoing program support, and a kit of materials.
Facilitators will be trained in the DIY Girls Club curriculum. Learn more about the club kit here.
Eligible teachers must:
Teach 4th and 5th graders in Los Angeles County.
Teach at a school with at least 90% free and reduced lunch participation.
Be willing & excited to facilitate projects meant for students completely new to STEAM.
As a DIY Girls Club Facilitator, I commit to:
Holding at least 3 two-hour sessions or 6 one-hour sessions covering all three projects
Securing a safe space to hold club activities
Serving as the main point of contact for DIY Girls Staff
Using my DIY Girls Club Slack community to ask any questions regarding my club
Sharing pictures and promoting student work on Slack (Note: Ensure that students have photo release)
Providing a fun, and enriching atmosphere for girls to apply technical skills in creative ways
As DIY Girls Staff, we commit to:
Providing a facilitator guide and student workbooks for 3 projects
Providing how-to videos for 3 projects
Providing a 1-day training that will cover the content, pedagogy, and teaching techniques necessary to run a successful club
Offering weekly office hours throughout the length of your program
Answering all content and management related questions in a timely manner
Offering resources to supplement curriculum

The award selection is determined by DIY Girls staff and is based on the criteria above and the receipt of all elements of the application package by the date indicated on the application form. The selection is final and is not subject to review.
